James Gray: Just over the Wilbury Railway Bridge, were to be found 1 and 3 Wilbury Crescent, seen here. These were late Victorian houses, built in 1896 but they soon outlived their original purpose as separate houses and were turned into flats. In 1959 they fell victims to the prevailing craze for blocks of flats, and within days of 13 December 1959, when this photograph was taken, the two houses had been demolished. jgc_13_075
2018: This block of 1960s flats named Janeston Court has retained the address 1-3 Wilbury Crescent. However, the entrance now faces west on to Wilbury Villas. The buildings to the left have survived unchanged. (Photographer: David Sears)
