VALLANCE ROAD

Vallance Road

Neighbourhood:
Central Hove
1900s
2018

James Gray: Looking towards the rather rural Vallance Gardens, during the 1900s. There is a glimpse of the roof of Hove Manor House with the adjoining large barns in Hove Street. The houses seen here were built in 1907/9. jgc_12_183

2018: Vallance Road is now a cul-de-sac as the junction with Church Road at the northern end (behind the camera) is closed to traffic.

The saplings shown in the original photo are now mature trees and cars park on both sides of the road.
No  longer in the least rural, these houses are in the catchment area for the over-subscribed St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School and Tesco and other shops in central Hove are only a few minutes walk away. Hove Manor House and its barns have been demolished and replaced with blocks of flats. (Photographer: David Sears)
