James Gray: This is a view of the Ridgway, looking north, in 1932. By now, buildings of the more traditional type were being built. jgc_33_048
2020: This photograph was taken from outside the Methodist Church, looking north. There has been much development since the 1930s and the view is now obscured by trees. (Photographer: Jayne Paulin)
James Gray: This view shows two of the few roads then existing on the Downs Estate and they give a good illustration of the types of dwelling occupied by the early settlers. Downs Road has since been widened and renamed Falmer Road. jgc_33_084
2019: A photograph taken from approximately the same position in January 2019. The amount of building that has occurred since the original photograph was taken means that the Down’s Hotel is now just barely visible to the centre right of the picture. (Photographer: Ron Fitton)
