WEST HOVE

St Keyna Avenue

Neighbourhood:
Aldrington
1929
2018

James Gray: Although more than 50 years separate these two photographs, (jgc_15_148 and 149), the wooden scaffolding and planks are common to both building operations. This photograph shows the erection of two semi-detached houses in St Keyna Avenue, during 1929, when the large area between New Church Road and Kingsway was being built on. It is said that these are the last houses on the west side, the present numbers 64 and 66. Additional Information: Such is his attention to architectural detail that J. S. Gray fails to mention the men working on the building are all seated in front for their photograph to be taken. jgc_15_149

2018:  James Gray may be slightly incorrect here, as the pair of semi-detached houses which seem to most closely match his image today are not Nos 64 and and 66 but their immediate neighbours Nos 60 and 62 which are shown in the 2018 picture. (Photographer: Steve Agace)
