James Gray: Knight’s Shoeing Forge and Veterinary Surgeon’s premises on the north side of Regency Mews. The premises extended through into what was then 25 Castle Street, now the building occupied by the Sussex Glass Bevelling Co. Ltd. The building was used as stabling until 1928. jgc_29_046
2018: This building is now No 2A Regency Mews. It runs through to 24 Castle Street, not 25. Despite several planning applications to modernise this building in recent years, decay is the main feature in 2018. (Photographer: Suzanne Hinton)
James Gray: Photograph of 19 May 1985, from inside the mews. The view is east towards Russell Square and the large facing building is that of which the front is seen on [jgc_29_049]. The smaller buildings seen left are the backs of commercial premises in Castle Street, the nearest one being where William Knight had his shoeing Forge which is seen on an earlier page. Some years elapsed after the demise of the garage business before redevelopment began in 1990-91, but the offices known as Russell House, flats and houses now stand here. jgc_29_050
