Albion and Carlton Hill redeveloped area
James Gray: This was the third of the mean streets, unworthy of the great name which they bore. Nelson Row and Nelson Place are seen on other pages. Nelson Street stood further up Carlton Hill and looked on to the newly built Kingswood Flats. Additional Information: Flints, handcart. jgc_24_138
James Gray: A close up view of one of the many flint houses seen on the previous page. Although derelict in 1914, this house was later occupied and remained with the others until 1937/38. Date of photograph: April 8, 1914. jgc_24_141
James Gray: February 7th, 1935. This shows almost the full length of the street looking towards the Lion and Unicorn Inn in Sussex Street. Additional Information: Advertisement for Park Drive cigarettes. jgc_24_140
James Gray: Demolition of houses at the top end of this old street on July 20th, 1938. jgc_24_142
James Gray: The rear of No 11, on the west side of the street. jgc_24_139
James Gray: Photographs of the rear of the houses on the west side of this old street taken from the back of Nelson Street. For this part of town these houses had remarkably long gardens in marked contrast to those on the east side, seen previously. Period unknown but probably not long before the street was demolished in 1937. jgc_24_129
