Neighbourhood:
James Gray: This short road, just to the west of Elm Grove, was one of the first ventures into municipal housing by Brighton Council. In 1887, Alderman Abbey and Daniel Friend gave a plot of land in this area for the erection of artisans’ dwellings. For many years the land lay idle until in 1904 May Road (named after the Borough Surveyor, Mr. F.J.C. May) was laid out and building commenced.
