James Gray: A view of Roedean College [sic] soon after it was built. The foundation stone was laid in 1897 and the building was completed the next year. At the time of this photograph the high wall and entrance gates had yet to be built. jgc_33_010
2020: A steep concrete wall and fencing now separates Roedean School from the busy Marine Drive while some of the grassy land in front of the main buildings has been converted to car parking. Several new buildings have been added since the original pictures were taken but remain sympathetic in style to the original structures. (Photographer: Ron Fitton)
James Gray: The aerial photograph of Roedean School dates from 17 January 1922. It shows the old coast road, the ventilating shaft chimney, Ovingdean Village and the Rottingdean School on Downs Road. jgc_33_016
2020: A modern Google aerial view of the scene today. Although the extent of the school grounds has changed little it is fascinating to see how neighbouring Ovingdean and South Woodingdean have expanded since the 1920s. (Photographer: Ron Fitton)
