MOTOR BUSES

Eastbrook Road

Neighbourhood:
Portslade and Southwick
c1927
2019

James Gray: One of the Tilling fleet of buses, but obviously much newer, probably about 1927, standing at the top of Eastbrook Road, Portslade, just by the footpath leading to Fishersgate Halt. jgc_14_081

2019: The brick house in Eastbrook Road, Portslade still stands though it has been rendered and painted cream. The windows have been changed. It still has a portico.

The footpath to the west of the house (just beyond the blue car in the current photo) is still there but is now only a few yards long, having been blocked off by a door at its north end. Another house fronting the A293 (Church Road) has been built adjacent to the house in the original photo. The 1A bus today runs from Mile Oak to Whitehawk but does not use Eastbrook Road. It runs up Church Road, Portslade past the east end of Eastbrook Road. One of the 1A buses is named ‘Thomas Tilling’ (pictured in the current photo) (Photographer: Alison Minns)
