James Gray: The junction of Crescent Drive North and Downs Valley Road, in 1929, when the Corporation water mains were being laid. This district had been incorporated in Brighton only in the previous year, 1928. jgc_33_070

James Gray: Good examples of the early dwellings built here in the 1920s before incorporation. Here a shack in Crescent Drive North, February 1959, which has since been removed. jgc_33_092

James Gray: This one is easier to date. Though the postcard is stamped 1932 on its reverse side, the photograph was taken some years earlier, probably about 1927 before the incorporation with Brighton. In detail it does not differ much from the large photograph on the previous page [jgc_33_073] having been taken from nearly the same position and again it emphasises the large area of land which comprised each plot in this outlying part of Woodingdean. jgc_33_074
James Gray: The same old shack in Crescent Drive North as is seen in jgc_33_096. Probably built in the 1920s it looked bad enough when viewed from the road, but just look at its appearance from the back. One wonders how it was kept together for about 35 years considering its flimsy construction and exposed situation. jgc_33_095
