James Gray: These two photographs [see also jgc_23_082] were definitely of the 1914-18 War, though again the exact year is unknown. This photograph shows wounded soldiers in hospital in the requisitioned St Mark’s School. jgc_23_080

James Gray: The modern photograph, 1956, shows later alterations on houses to the west. Arundel House, 13 Arundel Terrace, dates from 1872. At that time the Terrace was less than 50 years old having been built between 1826 and 1834. Arundel House, the first building to be completed, was originally known as the Bush Inn, after William Bush its first Licensee. By 1856, however, the Inn had been transferred to its present position at the corner of Arundel Road and Arundel Place, and at the time of this photograph Arundel House was occupied as a girls’ school. jgc_06_129
James Gray: Photographs [see also jgc_23_087 below] of the Arundel Street Laundry & Works, in 1907. The business was founded by Mrs Lucy Mills in 1850 and was later carried on by her daughter, Mrs Wilson. In 1894 the business moved to Arundel Road, where it has remained ever since. Additional Information: Staff standing in the courtyard, with all the windows open to let out the steam. The laundry was demolished in the 1990s. jgc_23_086
