SHIRLEY DRIVE

Woodland Parade

Neighbourhood:
Hove Park
1963
2018

James Gray: This wooden building, the office of Arnoco (Builders) Ltd. stood here in the angle of Hill Drive and Shirley Drive from about 1936 until late in 1963, when it was removed to make way for the parade of shops. Date of photographs – 8 September 1963. jgc_17_110

2018: The large detached house, No 1 Hill Drive, standing on the right in the 1963 photo, is largely unchanged, although it has lost its side chimney stack, and the wooden cladding to the first floor front elevation has been replaced with tiles. In 2018 Galileo Restaurant stands at the southern end of the parade of shops known as Woodland Parade. (Photographer: Alan Hobden)
