James Gray: View northwards to Portland Road, in 1907. This road which dates from about 1890 was originally called Upper Westbourne Villas. It has changed but little, except that the extensive nurseries near to New Church Road closed down in 1938. jgc_16_007

2018: The road looks remarkably unchanged but the site of the nurseries mentioned by James Gray (glimpsed on the bottom left of both pictures) is now occupied by The Aldrington Centre which provides mental health services for older people. (Photographer: Mathia Davies)
