45 VICTORIA STREET

Victoria Street

Neighbourhood:
Montpelier and Clifton Hill
1925
2018

James Gray: This is the other unknown photograph, which was identified more quickly as 45 Victoria Street. I wonder why the man chose to be photographed in front of these two, very ordinary, but typically Brighton houses. Also practically unchanged today. jgc_26_225.

2018: Decades after James Gray’s comment, the house is still virtually unchanged although the canopy above the ground floor window no longer exists. In addition, whilst railings have been retained, there is no longer an entrance gate. A handrail down the steps to the front door has, however, been installed.  The other photograph which James Gray mentions is jgc_26_223 on Temple Street, showing the same man outside another house. (Photographer: Mathia Davies)
