TIVOLI CRESCENT NORTH

James Gray: In 1912, soon after these few houses on the east side had been built. jgc _26_059

2018: Very little has changed over 100 years – even the lampposts are in the same positions. There is now a house on the spare plot seen in the middle of the 1912 photograph.

You can see it is an area of old housing as the telephone lines are supplied overhead from a pole. Almost all new houses built since the 1950s were fitted with underground telephone lines, but where just a single new house is built in an area of overhead cables, they continue with the old system due to cost. James Gray: The cleared site of 340 Dyke Road, 24 September 1961. The house had a large garden, which extended back into Tivoli Crescent, the wooden fence of which can be seen above. Four detached houses have since been built here. jgc _26_060

2018: This wider-angle photograph shows the junction of the three roads and was taken at the start of Dyke Road Avenue. Three of the four new houses to be built on the site of 340 Dyke Road can be seen on the Tivoli Crescent North/Dyke Road corner. (Photographer: Hugh Robinson)
