SOUTHWICK AND FISHERSGATE

St Aubyns Road

Neighbourhood:
Portslade and Southwick
1970s
2018

James Gray: Old cottages in St Aubyns Road, Fishersgate, as they were in the early 1970s, shortly before their removal. These photographs [jgc_38_065 and 066] are of particular interest to me, as when I was a young man I lived in two of these for a couple of years. I first lived at 103 (second house from right, following ) with my Mother, and after a year we moved to 95 (middle of the three, above). jgc_38_065

2018: The houses were demolished in the early 1970s and replaced with this uninspiring industrial building. James Gray’s text refers to both jgc_38_065 and 066 and is rather confusing. No. 103 is the second house from the right in jgc_38_066 and No. 95 is the middle house in jgc_38_065.  (Photographer: Jeremy Knight)
