THE BLACKMAN STREET AREA

Mayflower Square

Neighbourhood:
New England area
1967
2018

James Gray: Almost the full length of London Street, looking from York Hill towards St Bartholomew’s Church on 12 February 1967. It is intended that all these houses will be cleared away in early 1969 so that with neighbouring streets, New York Street, Fleet Street, etc., the entire area can be comprehensively redeveloped. jgc_25_243

2018:  London Street has been completely demolished and replaced with new housing in Mayflower Square and the London Road car park. This image is taken from Mayflower Square facing south, following the line that London Street would have taken. (Photographer: Jane Jordan)
