HOLLINGDEAN ESTATE

Lynchet Close

Neighbourhood:
Hollingdean
1951
2018

James Gray: This area, which for many years had been known as the North Bristol allotments, was prepared for building early in 1951. Looking west from the farm road leading in from Hollingdean Road. Date of both photographs is 6 May 1951. jgc_20_108

2018: The farm road to which James Gray refers was quite long so it is not possible to be sure from where his photo was taken. I have chosen the best view I could find. It is now fairly built up to the west. The puzzling part is that James Gray says the view is looking west, yet the land slopes from left to right. It seems to me that he has either developed the picture back to front, or he was actually looking east! (Photographer: Max Page)
