HERVEY ROAD

Lower Chalvington Place

Neighbourhood:
Eastern Brighton
1970s
2019

James Gray: Four photographs [jgc_23_103, 104, 105 and 106] of Hervey Road. This and the next photograph [jgc_23_105] are taken from the top end of the road, looking down to Whitehawk Crescent. jgc_23_103

2019: Nothing remains of Hervey Road. All the buildings have been demolished and the site of the road erased and replaced by small cul-de-sacs or similar. The view from the top of Hervey Road – where it once ended – is now obscured by the three storey residential dwellings of Lower Chalvington Place. (Photographer: David Jackson)

1970s
2019

James Gray: [See caption for jgc_23_103 above. See the Henfield Close page for the other two images jgc_23_104 and 106 referenced in Gray’s text.] jgc_23_105

2019: The graffiti on the concrete fence post seems to indicate that the James Gray shot was taken just a few yards to the left of jgc_23_103 above. The modern photograph has been taken from where the top of Hervey Road used to be and shows the backs of the houses in Lower Chalvington Place. (Photographer: David Jackson)
