FIRCROFT

Holly Close

James Gray: Two photographs of the house [Fircroft] itself, sadly in a state of extreme decay with windows broken, roof stripped of tiles and lead and damaged masonry. This photograph shows some of the front windows, the steps to the terrace, and the large conservatory. jgc_34_054

2021: Nothing remains of Fircroft house; it has all been built over with an estate of modern houses with the entrance via Varndean Drive (off Varndean Road). This photo was taken from approximately where the original was taken. Facing north from the garage access way in Holly Close. (Photographer: Michael Doodson)

James Gray: The south aspect of the house, as seen from both east and west, and showing the pillars supporting the portico. Here was the main entrance to the house. The three-storey building where the people are seen seems to have been a later addition as it was quite out of character, and out of proportion, with the rest of the house. Like most of the Fircroft photographs, taken on 10 November 1969. jgc_34_055

2021: See caption for jgc_34_054 above.
