James Gray: Photographs of this house, taken from the lane at the end of Highview Avenue North in April, 1967. The house, which stood in quite extensive grounds, had just been sold for building. On succeeding pages are several views [jgc_35_015 to jgc_35_112] of the house and grounds taken at the same time. Sixteen semi-detached houses are now being built on this site.

View of the house from Highview Avenue North showing the entrance to the building site through the garden fencing in April 1967. jgc_35_109

2019: The large house Churchfields was demolished in 1967. There is now a small estate of semi-detached houses on the site. There is still a small part of the circular turning circle on the road remaining. (Photographer: Clare Hughes)

James Gray: Photographs of this house [Churchfields], taken from the lane at the end of Highview Avenue North in April, 1967. The house, which stood in quite extensive grounds, had just been sold for building. On succeeding pages are several views [jgc_35_105 to jgc_35_112] of the house and grounds taken at the same time. Sixteen semi-detached houses are now being built on this site. jgc_35_ 105 and jgc_35_106

2019: In 2019 the sixteen semi-detached houses mentioned by James Gray are well-established. The large house ‘Churchfields’ was demolished in 1967 and there is now a small estate of semi-detached houses on the site. (Photographer: Clare Hughes)

James Gray: [See jgc_35_105 and 106 above]  The rear of the house which faced roughly west. The view is from the foot of the extensive garden looking slightly north-east towards the graveyard of Patcham Church. jgc_35_107

2019: The house was demolished entirely in the 1960s and there are now 16 semi-detached houses on the site. (Photographer: Clare Hughes)

2020: The 2019 image shows how well the now-vanished house, Churchfields, deserved its name. It is only 100 metres from Patcham Church and probably stood on former church lands. (Photographer: Clare Hughes)

A close-up look at the house, also showing the excavation of the central roadway serving the houses which were later built here. jgc_35_110

2020: The house has gone and there are now 16 semi-detached houses on the site. Highview Avenue North now continues further north to provide access to these houses. (Photographer: Clare Hughes)
