EAST HILL WAY, PORTSLADE

East Hill Way

Neighbourhood:
Portslade and Southwick
1918
2018

James Gray: Photograph by Mr T Wiles, photographer of George Street, Hove. Described by him as “a leafy lane, near Hove” it then led to East Hill Lodge, a private mansion, and thence to the Downs. jgc_38_025

2018: Little has changed in 100 years except that the road has been widened on the left (north) side and the height of the flint wall on the right (south) side reduced. (Photographer: Jeremy Knight)

1953
2018

James Gray: Photograph by Mr N Willcock of Foredown Drive, Portslade. Despite the passage of 35 years the lane is little changed in appearance, though it is no longer isolated and leads now to a housing estate. jgc_38_026

2018: Little has changed in 65 years except that the road has been widened on the left (north) side and the height of the flint wall on the right (south) side reduced. (Photographer: Jeremy Knight)
