CLAREMONT STREET

Claremont Street (historic street)

1956

James Gray: View north, towards Richmond Street, on the same day as the previous photograph [jgc_27_036 on the Claremont Place page] in 1956. Built in the 1860s, the houses were quite different in appearance from Claremont Place, which was built about 1830. The name of these streets was taken from the house, Claremont, in Esher, Surrey, which was bought in 1816 as a residence for Princess Charlotte, the daughter of George 1V on her marriage with Leopold, Prince of Saxe-Coburg. jgc_27_037
