James Gray: No comment. jgc_01_093

2020: Gray’s image shows the corner of Kings Road and Cavendish Place, formerly the home of the Union Club. In this modern image, Burleigh Hall, now Burleigh Court, and the fine south-facing façade of the building on Sillwood Street at the head of Cavendish Place, are still easily identifiable. They are now overshadowed to the left (west) by Cavendish House and to the right (east) by Bedford Towers and the Holiday Inn. (Photographer: David Sears)

James Gray: A 1954 photograph of the east side of this cul-de-sac, numbers 10-14. Unchanged, they were unaffected by the Bedford Hotel fire. jgc_29_040

2018: The Bedford Hotel (situated at the end of the road in the 1954 photograph) was destroyed by a fire which also killed two people in 1964. The replacement building Bedford Towers was opened in 1967. The lower floors of Bedford Towers are currently franchised by the Holiday Inn, with nine floors of large private flats above. (Photographer: Shan Lancaster)
