EAST HOVE

Brunswick Street West

Neighbourhood:
Brunswick
late 1950s
2018

James Gray: Small houses in Brunswick Street West, late 1950s. These are on the west side of this narrow street, Nos. 52 and 54. The one to the left, a century ago, was the Denmark Tavern but it had been delicensed by the turn of the century. jgc_11_120

2018: The 1950s cafe sign has gone. No 52 is now a fast food takeaway called Burger Off.

Its sign is rather oddly attached No 54. The original cafe door on the right has gone, replaced by one immediately to the right of the building’s other door, so there are now two doors next to each other. An extractor fan and a yellow awning have been added. The windows of No 54 have been replaced with modern frames. (Photographer: Alison Minns)
