TREDCROFT ROAD

Benett Drive

Neighbourhood:
Hove Park
1952
2020

James Gray: These two photographs [see also jgc_17_112 on the Tredcroft Road page] were taken on 15 December 1952, when the foundations for the first house were being dug. The houses in the background are those of Tongdean Avenue and Shirley Drive. jgc_17_111

2020: The house in the centre foreground in the James Gray image is the back of 6 Benett Drive, while the house on the far right, with the washing out in the back garden, is the back of 2 Benett Drive. Between them are the backs from left to right of 62, 60, 58 and 56 Shirley Drive.

The site of Tredcroft Road is on the extreme left of the image. The white post indicates the extent of the rear gardens of the houses in this road. The 2020 photograph shows the extent to which this area has been developed in the intervening years. The back of 6 Benett Drive is again centre foreground, with 4 and 2 Benett Drive to the right. The red brick building in the distance is the back of 62 Shirley Drive, with 60, 58 and 56 Shirley Drive to its right. The rear garden of 18 Tredcroft Road is in the bottom left corner. (Photographer: Google Earth/Alan Hobden)
