James Gray: The low Custom House building on the south side, facing north across the Canal. This had been in existence for many years, and in fact may well have started its life as a small private dwelling – as is suggested by the style of the windows, slates and chimney. Whatever may have been its previous history, of which I am unaware, it was for about 20 years from the mid-1950s used as the Custom House for this part of the Harbour. Now demolished. Additional Information: Plaque reads: Harald Isachsen (Med) Ltd. Anex Ltd. Ship Brokers. The Old Custom House. jgc_15_079

2018: As far as I can ascertain this is the approximate location of the Old Custom House. It stood on land now occupied by the workshops and yard of Neils Steels, steel fabricators. (Photographer: Mark Stephenson)
