James Gray: Three photographs of the well-known paddle steamers which were such a regular feature of the Brighton scene from the turn of the century to the Second World War. In those halcyon days it was inconceivable that Brighton should be without its daily plying of these most popular vessels which were always well supported. James Gray: Here we are dealing with much older photographs. These two blurred and indistinct views of boats on the beach are recent prints from waxed paper negatives, thought to be as old as 1858–1860. Additional Information: ©Philippe Garner. jgc_01_156 and jgc_01_157
