CLIFTONVILLE, HOVE

Seafield Road

Neighbourhood:
Central Hove

James Gray: A view of Seafield Road, January 1909. This was built by Jabez Reynolds between 1875 and 1879 and was, at first, called Seafield Villas. Most of the back gardens of St. Aubyns have now been used for garages. Additional Information: Jabez Reynolds lived at 18 Goldstone Villas with his wife and three sons. jgc_12_080

2018: The backs of these tall houses which face onto St Aubyns are shown more clearly in jgc_13_048, taken at or around the same time. By 2018 they have not changed but their long back gardens leading down to Seafield Road have been extensively built over by garages, small work units, or here, at the southern end, close to Kingsway, a line of modern three-storey mews style terraced cottages.
