James Gray: Norfolk Buildings, 15 February 1970, showing the 1875 archway giving access to the stabling behind the Norfolk Hotel. This replaced an even earlier entrance, and has now been much improved in appearance. jgc_29_024

2018: This little cul-de-sac no longer allows parking and offers no vehicle access to the rear of the old Norfolk Hotel site. The stairways and modern buildings seen behind the iron bars are part of a development of rooms for the hotel, which in 2018 is the Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel.  The building on the west (right) side of Norfolk Buildings has a sign saying ‘The Coach House. Rebuilt 2011’. (Photographer: Clare Rogers)
