James Gray: Photographed from the rear of Old Steine. The old houses of St James’s Place, built about 1810, are little different now from then, and their quietude is enhanced by the long back gardens of houses in Old Steine. jgc_22_090

2019: The nearer of the houses in this small and now gated alleyway off the north side of St James’s Street remains largely unchanged. The further houses appear to have been redeveloped or heavily altered. (Photographer: Jayne Paulin)
